Terms of Service

1. Agreeing to these terms

shottxt.com is operated by Ahn. By signing in or using the site you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use shottxt.

2. Who can use shottxt

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if your country sets a higher age for consenting to online services. You may not use shottxt if you have previously been removed from it.

3. Your account

Accounts are created through Google sign-in. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your Google account secure. One person may hold more than one account, but not to evade moderation, to inflate follows, likes or reposts, or to vote more than once in the same poll.

Your ID is yours while you use it. We may reclaim IDs that impersonate someone, are used to mislead, or belong to accounts that are removed.

4. Say what you want

shottxt does not police opinions. Post what you actually think, in the words you would actually use. We do not remove posts for being rude, wrong, unpopular, badly argued or uncomfortable to read, and we do not run automated filters over what you write.

Posts are limited to 300 characters. A post may also carry a poll of two to four choices, which closes at a time you set when you write it; you get one vote per poll and a cast vote is final. What you post stays yours. To run the service, you give Ahn a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce and display your content on shottxt and in the previews shown when a link to it is shared. That licence ends when you delete the content, apart from copies that may persist briefly in backups or in other people's caches.

5. And answer for it

Being free to post is not being free of what follows. You alone are responsible for everything you post, including under criminal law and under the law on defamation, privacy and intellectual property. You confirm you have the right to post what you post.

Ahn does not review posts before they appear and is not their author. If a complaint, a claim or a prosecution follows something you posted, it is yours to answer, and you agree to cover any loss, damages or reasonable costs Ahn incurs because of it.

Where the law requires it, we comply with valid legal process. That can mean handing over the account records described in the Privacy Policy, and it can mean taking down something we are lawfully ordered to take down. That is an obligation on us; it is not us policing the law on your behalf.

6. What gets you removed

The list below is the whole of it. If what you are reading is not on it, it stays up — we hold nothing in reserve for posts we simply dislike. We act on posts and accounts involved in:

• •Copyright and other intellectual property infringement — posting work that is not yours to post, or refusing to take it down once the rights holder asks.
• •Content posted to disgust or distress — gore, graphic injury or death, cruelty to people or animals, and anything else whose point is to sicken whoever sees it. Reporting on violence, and posting about it in earnest, is not this.
• •Sexual offences — sexual content involving minors, intimate images published without consent, sexual extortion, and using shottxt to solicit or arrange any of it.
• •Impersonation — passing yourself off as a real person or organisation to mislead people, including through the ID you take. Parody and criticism that nobody would mistake for the real thing is not this.
• •Spam, scams and attacks on the service itself — bulk or automated posting, fraud worked on the people here, scraping, floods of automated requests, and working around rate limits or other technical controls.

7. Reports and moderation

Anyone signed in can report a post. The report form offers the list above and nothing else — there is no free-text box and no catch-all, because a report we would not act on is not worth taking. Reports are reviewed by a human; nothing is removed automatically. Where a report is made out, we may remove content, suspend or delete an account, or reclaim an ID.

Sexual offences involving minors mean removal on sight, with no warning and no second account, and are referred to the authorities wherever we are required to refer them. For everything else we aim to be proportionate, though serious or repeated breaches can still mean removal without warning.

Filing knowingly false reports is itself a breach of these terms.

8. Ending it

You can delete your account at any time under Settings → Account. Deleting an account removes your profile, posts, likes, poll votes, follows and notifications; because replies belong to the post they answer, replies to your posts go with them. This cannot be undone.

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if we stop running shottxt. If we shut the service down, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your data first.

9. The service is provided as it is

shottxt is offered free of charge and without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, free of errors, or that content posted by other people will be accurate or inoffensive. You use it at your own risk.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Ahn is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of shottxt. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes are announced on the site before they take effect, and the effective date at the top changes. Continuing to use shottxt after that means you accept the new version.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Korea, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes consumer protections you are entitled to where you live.
